In early 2021, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, in partnership with The Nevada Center for Surveys, Evaluation, and Statistics (CSES) at UNR, will be launching the Feeding Our Community Survey project. This year-long project plays an important role in helping the Food Bank to learn more about the guests we serve and find new ways to help meet our community’s needs.
The Food Bank is currently recruiting volunteers for this project. If you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Vickie Fisher.
Over the next several months, Food Bank staff and volunteers will be visiting a variety of our direct-service programs, as well as partner food pantries, to invite clients to participate in the survey. If you are invited to take the survey, we hope that you’ll consider doing so. It will take just a few minutes of your time, and your input is truly invaluable to the Food Bank.
This study is a joint effort by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) and the Nevada Center for Surveys, Evaluation, and Statistics at the University of Nevada, Reno. FBNN provides food for partner pantries, as well as for clients through their own direct service programs, to ensure access to healthy food for all residents of northern Nevada and eastern California.
Our goal for this survey is to gain a better understanding of the true picture of food security in our region through the experiences and circumstances faced by clients. This important knowledge helps us better address the food needs of our local population through our programs and services. The questions in this survey include questions about your household’s food needs, as well as other questions about your household situation.
The site where you picked up your food was chosen from a list of all sites served by FBNN. Each site chosen received a predetermined number of survey postcard invitations, and your household was invited based on the time and day that you visited the pantry or food bank site. Only a small number of households from each site have been selected, making your participation very important.
By answering the survey questions, you will help to improve programs and services offered by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and will have no impact on your relationship with FBNN or their partner pantry sites now or in the future.
To thank you for your time, you will have the opportunity to receive a $10 gift card for food purchase at a grocery store that is available in your community. Only one person in your household should complete the survey, and each household will only receive one gift card.
This survey will take you 10-15 minutes to complete. Most people will take this survey online, using the survey link on the postcard you received from your local FBNN direct service program or partner pantry site. If you are not able to access the survey online, you can request a paper survey from the partner pantry or FBNN direct service program where you received your postcard invitation. You will still need the unique survey code provided on the postcard, which helps us ensure that only the selected participants can respond to the survey. Do not share your unique survey code with other households.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Personal information, such as your name and address, will be collected separately from your survey answers. This information will only be used to send you the gift card, nothing else. Contact information you provide to receive the gift card will never be included in any reports that result from this survey.
Your survey answers will be combined with all others who complete the survey. A report of the results will then be provided to FBNN, and ultimately used to help us better address the food needs of our local population through our programs and services. FBNN will receive a copy of the survey data, but this copy will not include any identifying information that could be used to connect specific answers to specific participants.
If you have questions about the survey, you can contact the Nevada Center for Surveys, Evaluation, and Statistics at 1-800-929-9079. If you have questions about FBNN or the services they provide, you can contact them at 775-331-3663. If no one is available to take your call at either location, please leave a message including your name and phone number. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
