Legacy Gifts
Make an Impact That Lasts
What legacy do you want to leave in the world? A legacy gift is a powerful way to ensure that families in our community will always have access to nutritious food. By planning your gift today, you create a lasting impact—one that continues to provide hope and stability for years to come. There are many ways to make a meaningful, future-focused contribution to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Ways to Leave a Legacy
Beneficiary Designations
Many assets—such as retirement plans, annuities, and life insurance policies—allow you to designate the Food Bank as a beneficiary. This simple process ensures that your support continues beyond your lifetime, feeding families and strengthening our community for generations to come.
Donor-Advised Funds (DAF)
A donor-advised fund is an easy, flexible way to make a lasting impact. You can recommend grants during your lifetime and choose to name the Food Bank as a successor beneficiary, ensuring your commitment to ending hunger continues into the future.
Gifts from an IRA
If you are 70½ years or older, you can use an IRA Charitable Rollover (Qualified Charitable Distribution) to transfer up to $100,000 annually directly to the Food Bank. This tax-smart giving option allows you to reduce your taxable income while making a difference in the lives of families facing hunger.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
Maximize your impact by donating stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. By transferring appreciated securities directly to the Food Bank, you can avoid capital gains tax while supporting hunger relief efforts in a meaningful way.
Living Trust or Will
One of the easiest ways to create a lasting impact is by including the Food Bank in your will or living trust. Even a small percentage of your estate can make a significant difference, ensuring that families receive the support they need for years to come.
Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust (CRT) allows you to provide for your loved ones while also supporting the Food Bank. This tax-advantaged option provides you or your beneficiaries with income for life or a set period, after which the remaining assets are donated to support hunger relief.
