“We started this because we saw a gap in support for our community, and we knew we had to step up. We wanted to create something lasting that truly uplifts people and represents the strength of Black leadership.” – RoMar
The Roots of Black Wall Street
Black Wall Street was founded in 2020 by RoMar Tolliver and Donald Griffin with a shared vision: to be Black men in their community who were actively taking action to build a stronger foundation of support and empowerment. They wanted to set an example of leadership, representation, and service, demonstrating what Black men can be in their communities. Their work is deeply inspired by the original Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a historical beacon of Black excellence, economic power, and self-sufficiency. Today, their mission remains clear: to uplift, empower, and nourish their neighbors, ensuring that every person who walks through their doors is met with dignity and care.
A Growing Impact
Black Wall Street began by serving unhoused community members, recognizing an urgent need for support and nourishment. What started as a commitment to meeting people where they were has grown into a powerful force for change. Each year, Black Wall Street has expanded its reach, now serving thousands of individuals in need of nutritious food and other resources. Their ability to provide fresh produce, pantry staples, and wraparound support continues to grow, demonstrating the strength of their commitment and the deep trust they have built in the community. As one of the few Black-led food pantries in northern Nevada, their work is not only about feeding families but also about breaking barriers and building a legacy of empowerment.
Leadership & Vision
For Black Wall Street President, RoMar, and his partner and co-founder, Donald, this work is deeply personal.
“We are not just giving out food. We’re building bridges. We want people to know that they matter, that they have a place here, and that we are in this together.”
That philosophy shines through in everything Black Wall Street does, from their commitment to increasing access to fresh produce to their holistic approach to community support. Beyond food distribution, they provide mentorship, education, and resources that empower individuals and families to build sustainable futures.
Celebrating Strength During Black History Month
During Black History Month, we recognize the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the leaders who are shaping a brighter future. Black Wall Street embodies these values every day. Their work is a testament to the strength and perseverance that have always been at the core of Black history–and the future they are helping to create is just as inspiring.
As we honor the past, we also celebrate the present and invest in the future. The impact of Black Wall Street continues to grow, and with the support of partners, advocates, and community members, they are proving that change starts with a shared commitment to justice, dignity, and nourishment for all.
