The Summit Partners With Food Bank of Northern Nevada to Help Local Children

by jlantrip

The Summit is presenting back-to-school shoppers with the perfect way to look great, save money, and give back to the community. Starting August 22, The Summit’s Shoptimum Rewards™ promotion will once again swing into full gear, just in time for back-to-school shopping. This year, The Summit is partnering with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to benefit local children through Back-Pack Kids, a program that provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare weekend food for elementary students in the Washoe County School District.

From August 22 to August 28, when shoppers spend a total of $250 across any five of The Summit’s stores or restaurants, they are eligible to receive a free $25 dollar Summit gift card, and The Summit will make a $5 donation to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s Back-Pack Kids Program – up to $1,000.

“This year, Shoptimum Rewards™ transforms back-to-school shopping into an easy and rewarding way to help the community,” said Alexia Bratiotis, area marketing manager for The Summit. “Our partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada allows busy shoppers to make a difference in the lives of local children.”

The Back-Pack Kids program targets homeless children or children showing signs of chronic hunger, who may receive little to eat apart from their weekday school meals. Every Friday, these children are sent home with backpacks full of food for the weekend, so that they may return to school the following Monday full and ready to learn.

“The Back-Pack Kids program receives no federal or state funding and relies entirely on donations, so support from businesses like The Summit is vital,” says Jocelyn Lantrip, marketing and communications manager for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “We have always had a strong partnership with The Summit and are excited to be using back to school as another opportunity to work together.”

Shoptimum Rewards™ not only assures that students start the school year in style and under budget, but that all children return to school with full stomachs and ready to learn. The Summit, with more than 80 unique stores and restaurants, and the Back-Pack Kids program have made the 2011 back-to-school shopping season affordable and beneficial to the local community.

In order to qualify for Shoptimum Rewards™, receipts must be redeemed by August 31 in The Summit’s Guest Services office near the Apple store.
