Check out this great family event that benefits the Food Bank.  I don’t believe that we have had any event where dogs dressed up to feed people!  It’s a first and you don’t want to miss it. 

Tricks, Treats & Treasures Designed to Scare up Fun in Downtown Reno’s Riverwalk District at the Holloween Hollow – Saturday, October 27th, 2012

            Guys, ghouls and ghosts will scare up some wicked fun in downtown Reno’s Riverwalk District on Sat., Oct 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. in the 6th annual Riverwalk Merchants Halloween Hollow event.

            Halloween fun is kicked up a notch with free family games, entertainment, live music, a doggie costume contest, free trick-or-treating for children and pets during the West Street Plaza Halloween Weekend.

            You’ll find bounce houses for the kids, live entertainment, concession stands and plenty of fun for everyone. Children of all ages can also enjoy Spooky Read Alouds for all ages at The Honors Academy of Literature, located at 195 Arlington Avenue at First Street.

            Enjoy a special performance by the band “Drinking with Clowns” on the main plaza stage. “Drinking with Clowns” eclectic sounds combine Latin, funk and rhythm and are designed to help you lose yourself in the sound of music. The group’s dual meaning lyrics routinely have audiences smiling in no time.

Howl-o-ween Doggie Costume Contest

Enjoy tail wagging fun when you enter your dog in the Doggie Costume Contest for a chance to win the funniest, scariest or most original costume. 

            A special dog costume contest is set for 6:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 27th  the proceeds will support the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.  Register at the main booth located in the West Street Plaza.  It’s a $10 entry fee per dog and all money goes to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.  Poodle princesses, butterfly Bulldogs, Monster Mutts and devilish Dachshunds, whatever your costume may be, we want to see your pups dressed-up and ready to trick or treat for free! Does your dog love wearing costumes and being the center of attention? Then join us October 27th for a special Halloween costume contest with free Trick-or-treating for your pup beggining at 4pm. Our guest judges will pick the winner at 7pm October 27th on the big stage. Deadline to enter is October 27, 2012.  Register throughout the month of October online at http://pupcrawl.eventbrite.com/.

            Not only will costumed candy seeking youngsters get a “treasure map” where they’ll find sweet treats at participating Riverwalk District merchant shops on Sat. Oct. 27th, but they’ll probably run into guys and ghouls in spooky costumes along the way. Take your dog trick-or-treating from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Special Pup treat stops will be identified on the official map. A portion of the candy has been generously supplied by the Kimmie Candy Company and the dog treats were generously donated by the Scraps, Shakespeare Animal Fund and SPCA.

Event Schedule

4 p.m. To 7 p.m. Bounce Houses, Entertainment and Concessions in West Street Plaza

5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. Free Spooky Read Alouds for all ages at The Honors Academy of Literature, 195 Arlington Avenue at First Street.

4 p.m. To 6 p.m. Live Music on the Showmobile by Drinking with Clowns

4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Trick-or-Treating for humans and pets along the Riverwalk

6:30 to 7 p.m. Doggie Costume Contest to support the Northern Nevada Food Bank

           

            In addition to the 2nd annual Doggie Costume Contest, visitors will have a second opportunity to donate food at participating locations. Food barrels will be available throughout the Riverwalk during the month of October. You can donate fresh, canned boxed and frozen product at the barrel location.  The generous donations that the Food Bank of Northern Nevada receives from the food drive is critical to the families and individuals who  are struggling to keep food on their shelves. Financial donations can also be made at http://fbnn.org/Donate.aspx. Just $1 provides approximately four meals to feed our hungry neighbors. With your help, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada can supplement the food that is donated with the important nutritious staples we all need.
