Together we CAN do it!

Last night, a group of jurors toured Meadowood Mall containing this year’s 11 CANstruction entries and chose their favorites.
It’s a tough job since so much work and planning goes into to each entry in the contest.
Wednesday was spent toiling and building, some for the entire 12 hour time period.
Lessons were learned and as a result, people will be fed.
We love this event.
We would like to congratulate all of the teams who participated this year and let you know who shined even a little brighter in the minds of the jurors.
The first Honorable Mention went to “Bot Unplugs Hunger” by NV Energy and design professional Lindsay Panko.
Another Honorable Mention was awarded to “iCan Feed – an App for Hunger” by Sierra Nevada Job Corps and design professional, Pete Dube.
Best Meal went to “The Harrah’s Reno Slot Machine” built by Harrah’s Reno for being the only structure containing fruit!
Best Use of Labels went to the “Purple Hand Pledge”, depicting an anti-bullying message, built by Cold Springs Middle School.
The Award for Structural Integrity went to “Strike Out Hunger” built by Depoali Middle School and assisted by design professionals, H & K Architects.
Juror’s Favorite went to “Hunger Behind Bars” built by Jerry Whitehead’s 5/6 School within a School Program along with design professional, Dolores Henderson.
The structures will be up from now through closing time on Sunday and the public is invited to participate in Juror’s choice voting at the information desk for $1 per vote.
Each vote helps provide 4 meals to those who are hungry in our area.
