Food Collected at this year’s Lights Up!

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is so thrilled to be a part of the holiday tradition that is Lights Up at The Summit!

Join us on Saturday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.
and start the holiday season with a bang as The Summit lights up with holiday spirit.

Gather in the Plaza next to Vans and Tilly's to watch Santa's arrival and a grand fireworks show. This FREE event features live music by the Reno Philharmonic Choir, giveaways for the children from Renown Children's Hospital and enter to win prizes from The Summit. Plus, you can make someone else's holiday season brighter with a donation to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. At Lights Up the FBNN will be collecting non-perishable food items - items that are most needed include hearty soups and stews, peanut butter, canned beans, vegetables, fruits, chili, tuna, rice and pasta.

Lights Up is sponsored by Renown Children's Hospital.

Thanks to Dillard’s Summit Sierra for their involvement with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada this year.  They are starting a one week food drive tomorrow at Dillard’s and they are also having a “Fit Event” to help feed the hungry.  Buy any regular price bra, shapewear, or sleepwear garment on Wednesday, November 16 and they will donate $2 to our local food bank.  If you can’t make it in that day, they can presell items to be a part of this great promo!

That isn’t all:  Check out Phoebe, the Fit Girl on facebook by clicking here, like her, and they will donate another $1 to Feeding America, up to $40,000!

Visit our friends at Spicy Pickle in November and December, enjoy their famous "Brooklyn" sandwich, and they will donate $1 to the Food Bank, which will provide four meals to the hungry in our region.  While you are enjoying your sandwich, bring in a can of hearty soup to the Spicy Pickle Soup drive and you'll be doing twice the good!  What a delicious way to feed people.

Both Reno & Sparks locations are participating so drop by the Reno store at 5210 Longley Lane Ste. 100 or the Sparks store at 222 Los Altos Parkway in Sparks.  The new holiday promotion at Spicy Pickle is part of nationwide campaign to give back and help feed the hungry.

  4. Circus Circus Trick or Treat Event!

Trick or Treat Street at Circus

Halloween fun isn't just for kids at this year’s Fourth Annual Trick or Treat Street at Circus Circus Reno. The whole family is invited to dress in their boo-tiful and scary best and come on down to the Hotel-Casino’s Midway on the Friday night before Halloween, Oct. 28, for free candy, treats, games and drawings for great prizes as well as live remote broadcasts from radio stations Magic 95.5, Wild 102.9, KBUL and KKOH who’ll be on hand to help host the event!

“Every year we have so much fun, even our employee volunteers who work it really enjoy themselves,” said Shawna Ridgebear, Circus Circus casino marketing manager and originator of the event. “They were all eager to volunteer again for this year’s event to hand out the candy and prizes.”

The event, which takes place between 4 and 8 p.m., also includes a free Child ID program for children up to 17 provided by the Circus Circus Security Department.  The process is easy, the card is printed, and ready to take with you in a few minutes!

Costumes are encouraged, so get creative -- the kids will get a howl out of seeing their parents get into the spirit of the holiday and there’ll be a backdrop for photo ops for your special Halloween memories.

On the Midway, there’ll be plenty of chills and thrills as international circus stars take the stage, including the Imperial Acrobats of China, JR Johns and his highly trained dogs and Juggler Svetlana Ivtchenko. “The Circus shows for that night have been scheduled so that everyone can be sure to see at least one of our world-class performances while enjoying the event,” Ridgebear said.

Admission is free, but you can help out the Food Bank of Northern Nevada that night by bringing nonperishable food items. For details, call 775-329-0711 or go online to circusreno.com.

Food Bank of Northern Nevada Holds Two Holiday Food Drive Kick-Off Events!

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is kicking off the Holiday Food Drive Season with two events.  These events will allow businesses and individuals an opportunity to sign up for their seasonal Food Drives.  The events will both offer opportunities to sign up for a food drive and receive the boxes or barrels to get started collecting non-perishable food items to help the hungry in our region.

The Food Drive Kick-Off events will be held on Tuesday, October 25 at BJ’s Brewhouse in Sparks and Wednesday, October 26 at 775 Gastropub in Reno.  Both events will be held from 3 – 7 p.m.   Sign up to hold a food drive and receive everything you need to get started right away.

Both locations will be offering happy hour specials to those who sign up for Food Drives at the kick off events.   BJ’s Brewhouse is located at 425 Sparks Blvd. in Sparks.  Their phone number is (775) 395-3550.   775 Gastropub is located at the West side of Meadowood Mall at 5162 Meadowood Mall Circle in Reno, NV 89502.  Their phone number is (775) 828-0775.

The logistics of the Food Drive season are costly and time consuming.  These kick-off evens offer the opportunity to save ($100 per truck load of barrels) and use them to help feed more people.
