Child Nutrition Programs
We have several programs that address the special needs of children whose families don't have enough food.
Among them are the
Kids Cafe at schools for kids to eat after school hours are over;
Back-pack Kids for children to have food on the weekends; and
Summer Foods to get at least one nutritious meal prepared for children during the summer months when school is not in session. Click on any of these to learn more. We also have classes to teach kids about healthy eating and adults about spending their food money wisely. You can learn more about the nutrition education program
here.
Half of the people we serve -- through our own programs and through our partner agencies -- are children. If not addressed, child hunger is a health problem, an education problem and leads to greater healthcare costs for families and employers. Child hunger is preventable in Nevada and as a nation. The tools that are available are drastically underutilized -- especially the school breakfast program. Click
